Lumbini ranked 9th of 52 best tourist attractions in 2025

KATHMANDU, Jan 13:The New York Times published a list of the world's most visiting places, which includes Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, Nepal.

The New York Times has ranked Lumbini, 9th among the "52 Places to Go in 2025". 

This remarkable achievement is expected to enhance both domestic and international tourism.

The New York Times has also briefly mentioned Lumbini. It is said that thousands of years ago, Mayadevi gave birth to Siddhartha Gautama Buddha in Lumbini's gardens, and that Lumbini has since become an old ruin and a pilgrimage place with Buddhist centers.

According to the brief introduction, new temples and meditation centers are opening ten years after the earthquake. It also cites the 'Thousand Temple', which opened in November.

The Thousand Temple is a Tibetan-style structure decorated with three 16-foot-tall Buddha statues and over 1,000 additional Buddha statues, according to the introduction.

The region has witnessed a steady increase in visitor numbers, with more than 1.1 million tourists visiting in 2024 alone.

Lumbini, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is known for its various historical monuments and holy sites.
