Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality objected to national park opening flights to Everest region
KATHMANDU, Jan 11;Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality objects to the Sagarmatha National park's opening of flights in the Everest region, which breaks the agreement.
Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality issued a notice on Thursday stating its objection to the park's move.
The rural municipality also states that the park has violated the concerns of the citizens of the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu area, the decision taken by the park, the buffer zone management committee, and the buffer zone user committee to stop helicopter flights.
The rural municipality has objected to the most recent information from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) and the Sagarmatha National Park.
The local level has also objected to the airline company's decision to halt important flights prior to the meeting, stating that a meeting with people's representatives and other stakeholders had been scheduled for January 3.
Rural Municipality Chairman Mingma chhiri Sherpa stated, 'The contemporary time is one of interdependence, not prohibition.' He also stated that halting helicopter flights under various pretexts demonstrates that company are profit-driven rather than socially responsible.
Previously, the rural municipality, the park, and local stakeholders agreed to suspend commercial flights to a specific spot in the Everest region, allowing only emergency and rescue planes. The local municipality complained after the Sagarmatha National Park published a statement allowing planes that contradicted the previous judgment.
