Patan Durbar Museum is adding a new exhibition hall
LALITPUR, Dec 09:Lalitpur's Patan Durbar Museum will be expanded with a new exhibition hall. The museum, which is located in the World Heritage-listed Patan Durbar area, plans to add an exhibition hall to preserve and promote historical art.
Sureshman Lakhe, the head of the Patan Durbar Museum, stated that three ancient buildings currently house exhibition halls. He also stated that a new exhibition hall reflecting traditional art will be added to those buildings. According to him, work is underway to extend the exhibition hall, which will be inaugurated before International Museum Day (next Jestha).
Lakhe stated that the step-by-step process for making artistic sculptures will be showcased in the newly built exhibition hall. He stated that sculptures can be built of stone, wood, or metal, and that the step-by-step process of creating sculptures will be displayed.
He stated that Lalitpur's folk painter Pauwa, Bhaktapur's Indrakaji Silpakar, and Lalitpur's Chandrashyam Dungol will make a stone sculpture and hand it over to the museum as a gift.
According to the museum's chief, Lakhe, all those who hand over art to the newly enlarged space will be acknowledged during the inaugural event.
He informed me that the museum has other historical materials, including artistic sculptures, but the process of transforming them into sculptures from complete stone and wood is not on display, thus the additional area is being enlarged.
According to Chief Lakhe, the temporary exhibition that will be added to the new room will preserve and promote traditional art and culture while also allowing local and foreign tourists to study traditional techniques.
"It is natural for tourists to get bored of seeing the same type of historical material in museums," he told me. "Therefore, we have planned to increase the attraction of the museum and promote tourism by adding new artistic materials."
