NMLA received international recognition

KATHMANDU, Nov 11:The Nepal Mountain Leader Association has been granted full membership by the Union of International Mountain Leader Associations (UIMLA). Nepal's participation has earned it international prominence.

The UIMLA's annual general meeting, held in Macedonia on November 2nd, awarded the NMLA full-time membership as Nepal's representation, according to President Dawa Tashi Sherpa.

In Nepal, the Nepal Mountaineering Association established the NMLA in 2011. To grow mountain tourism in Nepal in a sustainable manner, the creation of an international-level labor force was required, as the international mountain leader is also one. Given the future of the Nepali tourism business, the primary requirement and difficulty was to perform international-level mountain leader training in Nepal. According to Sherpa, an international agreement requires Nepal's mountain leaders to work with an organization to meet this obligation.
