The Balgopaleshwar temple in Ranipokhari, Kathmandu, which is only open on the day of Bhaitika, has been crowded since early morning. Those who do not have sisters visit this temple to receive Tika and blessings.

This temple is traditionally opened every year on Tihar. Those who do not have sisters or brothers visit this temple on Brotherhood Day to do worship, darshan, and receive  tika.

The inscription states that Ranipokhari was built to satisfy the queen when Pratap Malla's son Chakrabartendra Malla died in 1727. Balagopaleshwar Temple was built in the center of the pond.
