Chatur Tamang successfully ascended Mount Elbrus 149 times

KATHMANDU, July 12:Mountaineer and guide Chatur Tamang scaled Europe's highest mountain, 'Mount Elbrus' (5,642 meters), for the 149th time.

He climbed three times in the same month, on June 14th, 23rd, and 24th of last month. He successfully climbed Mount Elbrus' east side for the 149th time.

Tamang successfully climbed Mount Elbrus from the east side at 10 a.m. (Russian time) on July 3rd, and from all angles. Last year, he ascended from the western side. He elaborated: "While climbing from all directions, I felt that it was difficult to climb Mount Elbrus from the west side." Climbing is more difficult from the west than from the south or north, and it is also slightly more difficult from the east.

Most climbers climb Mount Elbrus from the south side. He stated that few climb from the east and west sides. The journey from the east is equally good, but a little tough. I've climbed successfully from both the south and north sides. Both of these are traditional routes. The peak was only visible from the east and west sides, he noted.

He has worked as a guide on Mount Elbrus in Russia for many years. He began climbing Elbrus in 2002 and has set a goal of climbing it 200 times. He has already climbed Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse,  Cho Oyu, Manaslu, Ama Dablam (6856m), Baruntse, Iceland Peak, Mera Peak, and other mountains.
