KATHMANDU:Farmers in Eastern Nepal, Morang, and Jhapa are concerned that their rice may decay if they do not receive a fair price and market, while rice is imported annually.

To cut paddy prices, local traders have ceased purchasing it. They want to lower rice prices while also making a lot of money. Within a week, the price of paddy dropped by 300 rupees.

Farmers are confused and concerned because the moisture level of Chaite paddy is high, and it cannot be kept owing to the rainy season.

Considering all of this, Arju Rice Mill is purchasing paddy for Rs 1000 per maund after raising the price by Rs 100 a few days earlier. Birendra Bahadur Basnet, executive chairman of Arju Rice Mill, stated, "We are always on the side of farmers." He stated that we are devoted to helping farmers transition from subsistence to commercialization.

The Nepalese government has set the price at 2500 per quintal with an 18% moisture content. But Arju Rice Mill has retained the moisture content at 25% while maintaining the same pricing.

The failure to purchase paddy will almost probably have a significant impact on job creation. Local farmers are demanding that all three levels of government—local, state, and central—take this seriously.
