Hotel and tourism workers submitted a memorandum to HAN

KATHMANDU, May 11:Three national-level trade unions have submitted a six-point memorandum to the Hotel Association Nepal (HAN), urging that the service fee be managed by enacting a new law once the service fee is abolished in the hotel and tourism industry.

In order to legally obtain the service charge, three national-level trade unions, Nepal Tourism and Hotel Affiliated Workers Union, All Nepal Hotel Casino and Restaurant Workers Union, and Nepal Independent Hotel Casino and Restaurant Workers Union, presented a memorandum to HAN.

It was revealed that consumers were duped into paying service charges, but now hotels and tourism industry owners charge more on the menu and don't care about the workers. They said that the livelihoods of millions of workers across the country had been harmed. Santosh Thapa, General Secretary, informed.

According to him, the workers working in Nepal's hotel and tourism business are fleeing abroad after not getting their service fees, and if the same situation happens, they have submitted a memorandum to HAN to address the demand as Nepal's hotel and tourism business is in a state of collapse.

According to Section 10(a) of the Labor Act 2074 and Rule 3 of the Labor Regulations 2075, when it is defined as regular employment, after Covid-19, 100% of workers and employees are appointed through contract employment agreements or labor suppliers in the hotel sector, he informed.
