Thamel and Durbarmarg areas prepared to open 24 hours

KATHMANDU, March 28:The government has prepared to open Kathmandu's Thamel and Durbarmarg areas 24 hours a day.

This was discussed at the District Administration Office in Kathmandu on Monday.

Jitendra Basnet, the Chief District Officer (CDO) of Kathmandu, held a coordination meeting with related authorities and businessmen to explore 24-hour commercial activities.

The District Administration Kathmandu has begun preparations for this after Home Minister Ravi Lamichhane, who also serves as Deputy Prime Minister, directed that Thamel and Durbarmarg areas remain open 24 hours a day.

The District Security Committee has devised a security plan to keep Thamel and Durbarmarg open 24 hours a day.

In a meeting with relevant agencies and businessmen, CDO Basnet stated that the Thamel and Darbarmarg areas are ready to be open 24 hours a day.

He stated that a more comprehensive plan will be developed and implemented depending on the difficulties and answers that will surface when the market opens in order to completely ensure security.

After opening the market for 24 hours, the number of customers is expected to increase.

He stated that the security system will be created with the idea that criminal activity will increase from its the present. He also said that when businessmen use their rights, they should not pollute the sound in such a way as to violate the rights of others.

The government is planning to open the Thamel and Durbarmarg neighborhoods 24 hours a day. "Businessmen cannot make a difference in the price of goods and services during the day and at night," he added.

After the meeting, Bhabiswor Sharma, Chairman of the Thamel Tourism Development Council, stated that he has long demanded 24-hour business in Thamel.

He stated that the Security Council and the District Administration Office have altered the requirement and discussed how to run Thamel and Durbar Marg in a safe and orderly manner.

Sanjay Adhikari, Treasurer of the Durbar Marg Development Board, stated that opening Durbar Marg for 24 hours is completely suitable.
