Tenzing and Srijana win Late Babu Chiri Sherpa Memorial Climbing Competition

KATHMANDU, March 16:Tenzing Rai won the men's title at the Late Babu Chiri Sherpa Memorial Climbing Competition. Srijana Tamang was first among the women. They both won 50,000 in cash.

The competition was held on Thursday at Crimpanzee Adventure Hub in Bauddha, Kathmandu. The competition had 41 contestants, including 26 men and 15 women.


Ronak Upreti came in second place for men, while Sajan Lama came in third. Similarly, Swastika Chaudhary and Prerna Rai finished second and third in the women's category. The second award was Rs 30,000, while the third prize was Rs 15,000.

The Everest Summiteers Association and the Alpine Sports Association jointly organized the competition. The judges for the competition were Chiring Zangbu Sherpa, Jamchang Bhote, and Pimba Tenzing Sherpa.

Namgel Zangbu Sherpa, the head of Solududhakunda Municipality in Solukhumbu, opened the competition. Mayor Sherpa expressed his opinion that this competition will have a substantial impact on the adventure tourist business.

Maya Sherpa, President of the Everest Summiteers Association, stated that the challenge was established to honor the contributions of world record climber Babu Chiri Sherpa. She stated that such events are held every year.

Similarly, Ngwang Nima Sherpa, President of the Alpine Sports Association, believes that this competition will benefit the adventure sports sector and enhance climbing sports growth in Nepal.

The Nepal National Mountaineering Instructors Association provided technical support for this competition, including route setting, judging, safety, and belay services.

The late Babuchiri Sherpa, who summited Everest for the tenth time, is remembered as a renowned mountaineer.
