Buddha Air established the Late Surendra Bahadur Basnet Samman Award

KATHMANDU, March 14:Buddha Air is going to award the 'Late Surendra Bahadur Basnet Samman Award' every two years.

According to Buddha Air, the company will present the 'Late Surendra Bahadur Basnet Samman Award' to those who have made significant contributions to Nepal's law and justice system, such as reform and study.

The agreement was signed on Wednesday by Executive Chairman Birendra Bahadur Basnet on behalf of Buddha Air Pvt Ltd and Secretary Advocate Shyam Kumar Khatri on behalf of the Supreme Court Bar Association's Working Committee.

Buddha Air has set up an Akshay fund of Rs 25 lakh for the award. Every two years, one person will be awarded for the interest earned through this. Buddha Air has also offered an additional sum of five lakhs for the first year.

The Supreme Court Bar Association will deposit the funds in the fixed account of the bank that offers the highest interest rate among the 'A' category banks. Three lakh rupees of the interest earned will be spent on the prize money, with the remaining amount spent on the day of the general meeting.

Surendra Bahadur Basnet, the founder and chairman of Buddha Air, was also a former Supreme Court judge. He served as the first chief commissioner of the Election Commission and the Nepal Press Council's founding president. He was a minister in the Nepalese government and the chairman of several commissions at different times.

Buddha Air owns 15 ATR-72 and three ATR-42 aircraft. Buddha Air offers more than 150 flights per day.

Buddha Air offers direct flights from Pokhara to Nepalganj, Bharatpur, and Bhairahawa. It provides twice-weekly flights to Varanasi, India.
