Both matches tied in Khumbu Lhosar Cup

KATHMANDU:The second day of the 'Khumbu Lhosar Cup' football competition at Kathmandu's Sanagoucharan sports venue saw the completion of two matches.

The first match between Mahendra Jyoti Ex (Former) Vidyarthi Manch and Khumbu Yambu Sherpa Samaj concluded in a goalless draw. The man of the match won went to Sonam Sherpa of the Khumbu Yambu Sherpa Society.

Similarly, the second match of the tournament pitted Khumbu Veterans United against Namche Youth Group. Pemba Sherpa of Khumbu Veterans United was named man of the match after the game ended 1-1.

The first meeting between Thamichhowa and Khumjung Yuva Club was very intense and thrilling, and it ended in a draw with a goal differential of 1-1, with Lhakpa Rita Sherpa named man of the match. Similarly, in the second match on Monday, Amadblam Youth Club defeated Khunde Community Club 2-0, with Chhiring Palju Sherpa named man of the match.

This tournament, which has been held for the past 13 years following the Sherpa community's Lhosar (New Year) event, will be held among adolescents born in various villages in Khumbu Pasang Lhamu rural municipality in Solukhumbu and currently residing in Kathmandu.

The tournament will consist of 16 matches played over the course of eight days. This is the 14th edition of the 'Khumbu Lhosar Cup', the Sherpa community's largest football tournament. The competition has eight teams: Dumichho Football Team, Namche Yuva Group, Khumjung Youth Club, Amadblam Youth Club, Khunde Community Club, Mahendra Jyoti Ex (Former) Vidyarthi Manch, Khumbu Yambu Sherpa Society, and Khumbu Veterans.

The 14th edition of the competition was co-organized by Yambu Thamisro Kidug Kathmandu and the Umichchhowa Yuva Group, two Thamicho-based organizations. The winner of this tournament will receive the Khumbu Lhosar Cup running shield, medal, and certificate, along with as well as Rs. 1 lakh in cash; the second runner-up team will receive Rs. 50,000; and the third runner-up team will receive Rs. 25,000 in cash, a medal, and a certificate. The tournament, which began on January 29th, will conclude with a closing ceremony on the 7th of Falgun.
