Khumbu Lhosar Cup to start on Feb 12

KATHMANDU:The 14th edition of the 'Khumbu Lhosar Cup' is starting from Monday. There will be eight teams competing in this competition.

The tournament's chief coordinator, Mingma Sherpa, stated that the competition has been held for the past 13 years following Lhosar (New Year).

According to the organizer, the event will take place at the Sano Gaucharan Football Academy grounds from February 12 to 19.

The tournament is being organized among young people who were born in various villages of Khumbu Pasanglhamu rural municipality in Solukhumbu and are currently residing in Kathmandu.

According to Sherpa, the competition was developed to increase the desire for sports among the Sherpa children, showcase their talent, and link the community.

Shepa stated that the Khumbu Pasang lhamu rural municipality, located in the northern part of the Solukhumbu District of Koshi Province, is organizing the main competition to integrate Khumbu residents who have come to Kathmandu in various ways, as well as to showcase and develop the talents of the youth of that area.

The winner will receive a Khumbu Lhosar Cup running shield, one lakh rupees in cash, a medal, and a certificate; the runner-up will receive 50,000 rupees in cash, a medal, and a certificate; and the third team will receive 25,000 rupees, a medal, and a certificate.

There will be 16 overall games. The best player in each match, known as the Man of the Match, will get Rs. 3000 in cash. The players that perform the best throughout the event will get certificates, trophies, and cash prizes in the categories of best striker, best defender, best goalie, best midfielder, and newly emerging talent. A trophy, medal, and cash prize will be awarded to the player who performed the best during the competition.

According to the organizers, the competition will feature two matches every day, with league-less knockouts. The competition's concluding ceremony will take held on February 19th at the Sano Gaucharan Football Ground.
