Let's use skill and art for productive work: Minister of State Thakuri

KATHMANDU, Feb 04:Sushila Sirpali Thakuri, State Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, stated that the ministry is working to put skills, arts, and knowledge to practical use.

Minister Sirpali made the remarks on Friday while speaking at a workshop seminar organized by the Ministry of Tourism on the role of the state in the development of the Dalit community's historical arts, culture, knowledge, and skills, as well as the construction of modern skill schools and institutional development.

She stated that the Ministry will prepare a Culture Act to bridge gaps in state laws promoting skills and the arts.

She stated that unless the Dalit community's economic position improves, Dalit skills and arts will not be commercialized.

Professor Dr. Vidyanath Koirala, Professor Ishwar Chandra Gyawali, and Advocate Moti Nepali delivered working papers at the conference. Dr. Govinda Nepali commented on all three working papers.

While speaking during the conference, participants stated that even after 15 years of federalism, prejudice against Dalits has not decreased, and the state should treat this matter seriously.

The session was headed by Dr. Suras Saras Shrestha, the head of the Ministry's Culture Division, and attendees included National Planning Commission member Dr. Ramkumar Phuiyal, former minister Daljit Sirpali, chairman of the National Dalit Commission, and others.
