Sajan and Srijana win Tenzing Norgay Sherpa Open Climbing Competition

KATHMANDU, Jan 30:The first Tenzing Norgay Sherpa Open Climbing Competition (Top Rope Edition) concluded on Monday at Crimpanzee Adventure Hub in Bouddha.

The men's and women's competitions were won by Sajan Lama and Srijana Tamang, respectively. They received the hanging batch with 15,000 in cash. Similarly, Dipan Gurung and Bijay Sunar won second and third in the men's category. Likewise, Prena Rai and Yangla Bhote won second and third, respectively. They received the hanging batch, which included cash awards of 10,000 and 5,000.

The competition, which took place at Crimpanzee Adventure Hub in Bouddha, drew 38 men and 20 women. 

Sonam Gyalzen Sherpa, a member of the National Assembly, and Kanchha Sherpa, the only living member of the 1953 Everest expedition, jointly was inaugurated the event. 

Tanka Lal Ghising, Member Secretary of the National Sports Council, attended the closing ceremony. National Sports Council Member Secretary Tanka lal Ghising presented cash prizes and hanging batches to the competition's title winners.

Additionally, the winner will receive a one-night stay at the Annapurna View Hotel in Sarangkot.

Pasang Nima Sherpa, President of the US Nepal Climbers Association (USNCA), stated that the program was co-organized by the US Nepal Climbers Association and the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association to promote the sport of climbing.

Tshiring Jangbu Sherpa, the program's coordinator and general secretary of the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association, stated, "This is not only a competition, but also a tribute to the famous Tenzing Norgay Sherpa."

According to USNCA founding president Serap Jangbu Sherpa, this competition will inspire more people to pursue a career in climbing. "Since we have been organizing the Top Rope Edition in America as well, this time we have planned the competition in our own country with the name of Tenzing Norgay Sherpa in collaboration with Nepal National Mountain Guide Association" , stated the organizer.

Lakpa Nuru Sherpa, treasurer of the USNCA, stated that the event had been organized to promote the sport of climbing.
