First Tenzing Norgay Sherpa Open Climbing Competition held on January 29

KATHMANDU, Jan 25:The Nepal National Mountain Guide Association (NNMGA) and the US Nepal Climbers Association Inc. (USNCA) have announced the First Tenzing Norgay Sherpa Open Climbing Competition (Top Rope Edition), which will take place on Monday, January 29, 2024, at the Crimpanzee Adventure Hub in Bouddha, Kathmandu.

NNMGA General Secretary Tshiring Jangbu Sherpa stated that the organizers were making the finishing touches on the preparations for the Tenzing Norgay Sherpa Open Climbing Competition (Top Rope Edition).

According to Pasang Nima Sherpa, president of the USNCA, the US Nepal Climbers Association Inc. (USNCA), and the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association (NNMGA) are co-organizing the event to promote the sport of climbing.

The event promises much than just competition; it will also be a celebration of climbing culture, fellowship, and Tenzing Norge Sherpa's unshakable spirit.

Sherpa, the program's coordinator, stated, "This is not only a competition, but also a tribute to the famous Tenzing Norge Sherpa."

The competition will be held separately for men and women. The first, second, and third-place winners will get cash prizes as well as hanging batches.  "The first, second, and third positioned climbers will be awarded a cash prize of NRs 15,000, NRs 10,000, and NRs 5,000, respectively," according to the organizers. The victors will also get hanging boards, certificates, and striking medals, and other competitors will be handed certificates. Anyone over the age of 12 can compete in the competition by paying a registration fee of Rs 500.

According to the organizers, the event's title sponsors will be Imagine Nepal Treks, 4Stories, USNCA chair Passang Nima Sherpa, 8K Expeditions, Likla Outdoor, Wongchu Peak Promotion, and The North Face Nepal, while the gold sponsors will be BaRo 360, Dawa Jangbu Sherpa, Lakpa Geljen Sherpa, Phutila Sherpa, and Mountain Hardware.
