NA Chair Timilsina urges for Ireland's support to lift EU ban on Nepali airlines

KATHMANDU, Jan 09:The National Assembly Chair, Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, met with the Chairperson of the Seanad Éireann, the Upper House of Ireland, Jerry Buttimer on Monday.

Chairperson Buttimer, who is on a five-day visit to Nepal, met in the office of National Assembly Chair Timilsina at Singha Darbar.

During the meeting, National Assembly Chair Timilsina urged the European Union lift its flying ban on Nepalese airlines.

He stated that the aviation ban has had a significant impact on Nepal's economy and tourism, and because Ireland is an active member of the EU, he is certain that constructive initiatives and results will be achieved to lift the restriction on Nepali aircraft in European skies.

During the meeting, Chairperson of the Seanad Éireann, the Upper House of Ireland, Jerry Buttimer, stated that after he returned from his travel to Nepal, he would continue the discourse and discussion on abolishing the prohibition.

He stated that he is already aware of Nepal's positive initiatives to develop aviation. He stated that parliament and parliamentarians will play a key role in improving relations between the two countries, and he hoped that the visit will provide an opportunity to learn about each other's parliamentary practices and experiences. "This will strengthen parliamentary democracy and help ensure the rights of our citizens," Buttimer added.

He also stressed the importance of expanding our two countries' commercial, investment, and tourism partnerships.

He stated that many citizens of Ireland are interested in mountain climbing and trekking in Nepal, he said that it is necessary to encourage tourists to visit Nepal in the future.
