More than one million foreign tourists entered in 2023

KATHMANDU, Jan 02:The number of tourists visiting Nepal and the number of international air passengers have proven that the tourism sector has returned to normal, owing in part to Covid. The covid pandemic reduced the number of visitors visiting Nepal in 2020. More than one million tourists visited Nepal for the first time since 2020.

According to Mani Lamichhane, Director of Nepal Tourism Board, 10 lakh 14 thousand 871 tourists visited Nepal in 2023. According to Lamichhane, 96,566 visitors visited Nepal alone in December 2023.

55,074 in January, 73,255 in February, 99428 in March, 98774 in April, 77702 in May, 72,248 in July, 57,725 in August, 67,153 in September, 1,08,630 in November, and 96,566 in December tourists visited Nepal.

Prior to Covid, the number of tourists visiting Nepal in 2019 was estimated to be around 1.2 million. In Nepal's tourism history, the largest number of visitors was 11 lakh 97 thousand 191.

Similarly, Nepal received 2,30,085 tourists in 2020, 1,50,962 tourists in 2021, and 6,14,869 tourists in 2022.

In 2023, 4,00,200 more visitors visited Nepal than in 2022. This figure is 40% higher than in 2022.
