Airport shops should sell packaged food and beverages at retail price

KATHMANDU, Dec 21:It has been suggested that arrangements be made to sell packaged food and beverages such as water, biscuits, noodles, and so on at the airport at full retail price.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN)'s committee has recommended that food and beverages with packaging be sold at the maximum retail price.

In the case of other items, the wholesale price of electricity tariff, restitution amount, structure construction, decoration, and so on should all be considered costs and should not exceed the maximum profit allowed by law, according to coordinator Niraula.

The committee, chaired by the CAAN's spokesperson, Jagannath Niraula, stated that the Airport Service Fee Regulations 2078 should be revised to reflect this.

It has been suggested that the prices of goods and services sold by restaurants, business lounges, and executive lounges should not be more than the costs charged by hotels and restaurants of the same level.

Sudan Kirati, Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, asked the authorities to cut the costs of food and beverages during an inspection of the airport two months ago when it was discovered that the shops were charging too much. The CAAN then created a committee.

The CAAN has been collecting exorbitant rent from shop. The airport's domestic and international terminals each have 30 stores.
