KATHMANDU, Dec 21:Nepal Airlines Corporation has announced that it is finalizing plans for the long-awaited Nepal-Australia direct flight. Nepal and Australia concluded an air agreement in 2019.

According to NAC spokesperson Ramesh Poudel, the NAC has got a flying time (slot) at Sydney Airport in Australia and is awaiting a flight permission from the Australian Civil Aviation.

We have requested approval from the Australian Civil Aviation Authority in writing. Every other process has been finished. At the national level, and the embassy is requesting approval. The flight will begin in a few months, according to Paudel, the spokesperson.

He stated that the NAC is currently awaiting the authorization letter after Sydney Airport granted it slots for two flights each week.

"Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport has given slots for Thursday and Saturday, now we are waiting for the flight permit.""At the Australian Civil Aviation Authority, we have completed all necessary documents," stated Paudel, the spokesperson.

According to the NAC, the Nepalese government, the Ministry of Tourism, and Nepal Airlines Corporation have finished the flight permit process, and the embassy is facilitating it.

There are approximately 200,000 Nepalese in Australia, and the Nepali population is dense.

Because the NAC's Airbus 330 aircraft could not go directly to Australia, it proposed refueling in Singapore. Nepal Airlines, the country's flag carrier, will begin flights to Australia soon. Previously, during the Covid-19 outbreak, the NAC chartered flights from Sydney and Melbourne.
