Manakamana Cable Car in its 26th year, cable car being upgraded to digital technology

KATHMANDU, Nov 25:The first cable car service in Nepal Manakamana Cable Car has completed 25 years and and entered 26 years.

Cablecar, which started with the vision and investment of the late entrepreneur Laxmanbabu Shrestha, has expressed its commitment to provide better service in the future.

Manakamana Darshan Pvt Ltd was founded on November 7, 1996. The business began cable car construction in the first week of February 1998 and began commercial service on November 24, 1998.

Rajesh Babu Shrestha, Managing Director of the company's, stated that the cable car's analog technology will be replaced with its latest digital system. The company stated that the work of upgrading to the Austrian Doppelmeyer company's digital system called D-Connect was completed in 2021, and the remaining part of the work will be completed in August/October of 2024.

The control system, communication cable, and cable car will be operated using modern and advanced technology in the following phase, according to reports, by altering the cable stick. The company stated that it will invest approximately 45 crore rupees to upgrade the cable cars.

According to Managing Director Shrestha, the resort is being built in Manakamana to be operational from the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025. This 40-room resort will have swimming pool, health club, meeting-seminar hall and restaurant facilities.

The investment in the resort is estimated to be around Rs 55 crore. Managing Director Shrestha further stated that once the resort is operating, our goal will be to make Mankamana and the surrounding area a religious as well as other tourism attraction.

 Manakamana cable car, which initially served 2-3 lakh passengers per year, has now grown to serve Rs 11 lakh passengers per year. The current year's goal is to serve 12.50 lakh passengers.
