Second international mountain cross country competition is being held in Pokhara

KATHMANDU, Nov 22:A friendly race competition (International Mountain Cross Country Race) is going to be organized in the tourist city of Pokhara.

It has been informed through a press conference that the competition is going to be held in Pokhara on the 9th of November in the joint organization of Nepal Tourism Board, Chinese Embassy for Nepal and Pokhara Metropolitan City and co-organization of Yunnan Mountaineering and Outdoor Sports Association of China and Hotel Association of Pokhara.

The competition is expected to increase the arrival of Chinese tourists in Nepal. The competition is going to be organized for the expansion of friendly relations between Nepal and China and the promotion of Nepal's tourism. In the press conference, the executive head of the tourism board. Dhananjay Regmi informed us that 10 teams each from Nepal and China will participate in the competition.

He informed that one hundred and four Chinese including players, officials, and other guests will come to Pokhara on a Himalayan Airlines chartered flight to participate in the competition. Earlier, the first edition of the competition was held in 2019. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the competition could not be held after that.

At the press conference, the Deputy Chief of Mission of the Chinese Embassy, Wan Xin, said that the competition will make the friendly relations between Nepal and China more harmonious and it is expected to help in the promotion of sports tourism in Nepal.

In the competition, the runners will have to cover 40 kilometers by running, cycling, and boating in Fewatal. The competition will start from Barahighat on the shores of Fewa lake and reach Vishwa Shanti Stupa via David's Fall.

Apart from the friendly competition between Nepalese and Chinese athletes, an individual running competition of 38 km, a public event of 5 km for common citizens, and a 5 km running competition for students are also held.

In the competition between Nepalese and Chinese runners, the first team will get Rs 360,000, the second team will get Rs 288,000, the third team will get Rs 216,000, the fourth team will get Rs 144,000 and the fifth team will get Rs 90,000.

In the individual competition, the first prize will be Rs 1 lakh 44 thousand, the second prize is Rs 1 lakh 8 thousand, and the third prize is Rs 54 thousand. Cash prizes have also been arranged for the runners who come in the 4th to 10th level in the individual competition.

Earlier, Chinese athletes had chartered a plane and came to Pokhara to participate in the Chinese Dragon Boat Race held in Pokhara on June 8 and 9.
