KATHMANDU, Nov 04:A peace torch rally has been set in motion from Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha.

This symbol of peace will be conveyed to Kala Patthar by renowned climbers, including Mr. Kaji Sherpa. The peace torch is expected to arrive at Kala Patthar on the 11th November 2023, where it will be accompanied by the hoisting of Nepal's National Flag by the Honorable Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Mr. Sudan Kirati.

The Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) is holding all these ceremonies as part of marking its 50th Anniversary, with the aim of drawing international attention to the adverse effects of global warming on Nepal's mountains and to promote world peace.

Dr. Lyharkyal Lama, the Vice President of Lumbini Development Trust, handed over the ceremonial lamp to the NMA team, which includes Central Executive Board Member Mr. Diwas Pokhrel, Goodwill Ambassador Mr. Kaji Sherpa, and former NMA board member Mr. Shiva Bahadur Sapkota. The peace torch is expected to arrive at Kathmandu by the evening of 5th November 2023.
