NMA’s 50th anniversary celebrations will hoist the national flag at Kalapathar
KATHMANDU, Oct 30:The Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) will hoist the national flag at Kalapathar, the Everest base camp, on the celebration of the 50th Foundation Day.
According to NMA President Nima Nuru Sherpa, the decision was made to raise the national flag to commemorate the organization's 50th anniversary. He stated that the NMA's mission is to inform the globe about the effects of climate change.
He stated that the national flag will be raised in Kalapathar, near the Everest base camp, where the cabinet meeting was held on December 4, 2009.
According to the NMA, the peace lamp will be lit from Lumbini and will pass through Kathmandu and light the lamp at Kalapathar. The date for hoisting the flag has yet to be decided.
A program to honor famous mountain climbers has also been scheduled on November 1 in Kathmandu by President Ramchandra Paudel on the foundation day of the NMA.
To make the 50th founding day global, the general meeting of the UNION OF ASIAN ALPINE ASSOCIATIONS will be held in Kathmandu. The general meeting will be attended by representatives from 18 Asian alpine clubs. Chairman Sherpa feels that this will help to increase global awareness of the Nepali Himalayas.
On the occasion of the foundation day, Pasang Lhamu Sherpa Women's Adventure Mountaineer Award has been established and it is also being prepared to give it to women adventurers of the year.
