UN Secretary-General Guterres stresses on preserving heritage

KATHMANDU, Oct 29: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has stressed the need for preserving Nepal's heritages bearing historical and archeological importance.     

Talking to RSS in brief after observing the Patan Durbar Square, today, Secretary-General Guterres, who is on a four-day official visit to Nepal, underlined the need for putting special efforts to keep intact the forms and structure of the heritages with archeological importance.     

The Secretary-General mentioned, "Special attention should be paid on preserving such historical heritages of Nepal for the generation to come. It will make Nepal's future brighter".     

Recalling that he had already visited Nepal in 1978, Guterres said he was mesmerized by the natural beauty and heritages of the Himalayan country.     

Saying that Nepal is graduating from the status of the Least Developed Country by 2026, the UN Secretary-General mentioned such historical heritage could attract the tourists which subsequently contribute to the national economy.     

Likewise, he expressed happiness over the efforts of the political parties of Nepal to conclude backlog of the peace process.
