CAAN forms a committee to regulate price of goods sold in airport stores

KATHMANDU:The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) formed a high-level committee to determine the maximum price that stores selling goods and services within Nepal's airports can charge.

Sudan Kirati, Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, monitored the fact that the prices of businesses inside the airport are higher than those outside the market a few days ago, but only after receiving repeated complaints from customers.

During that time, the airport management instructed the commerce department to check it when it was discovered that MRP was not kept in some shops and excessive prices were kept in others.

According to CAAN spokesperson Gyanendra Bhul, the authority set up a high-level study committee on Thursday to determine the airport's limits, as the fare must be paid at the places specified by the authority, and international quality must be maintained.

"There is a dispute whether the airport should be considered as a market area or not, a committee has been formed to decide policy issues including how to maintain quality when the price is outside the MRP," the bhul added.

The committee, chaired by Jagannath Niraula, Deputy Director General of the CAAN, has been tasked with completing the legal phase of the problems raised within 15 days.

Airport rent are higher than market rates. In addition, this committee is going to decide the matter of how long the price will guarantee that the consumers will not be cheated since the shops have to maintain the quality of the goods. He stated that the committee has been tasked with submitting  the report to the Director General.
