Department of Commerce urged to monitor stores at TIA

KATHMANDU, Oct 19:The Tribhuvan International Airport Office has urged that the Department of Commerce monitor the price and quality of commodities held in the airport's stores.

The office raised the attention of the department on Wednesday by releasing a notice stating that the pricing and quality of goods should be managed for the benefit of consumers and travelers.

The shops were warned not to do any activities that are contrary to the Consumer Protection Act during the monitoring conducted by the Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Sudan Kirati, and the airport office says that since the Department of Commerce is the body that monitors the market price and quality of goods, the monitoring should be increased through that department.

During Minister Kirati's surveillance, it was discovered that the stores in the airport's domestic and international terminal buildings were selling goods at prices higher than the MRP, and the MRP or price tag was not applied.
