Airlines in financial trouble due to no fare review: AOAN

KATHMANDU, Oct 19:The Airline Operators Association of Nepal (AOAN), the airline operators' umbrella organization, has stated that non-revision of fares has resulted in significant financial losses for the airlines.

In a statement made on Tuesday, AOAN stated that there was a problem as a result of the fares not being revised on time.

According to AOAN, the airline company has suffered a financial blow as a result of the increase in the price of aviation fuel and aircraft parts, the unstable dollar exchange rate, the Ministry of Finance's value-added tax, and the increase in passenger service charges and airport service charges.

The fare was last adjusted in 2073.  After that, the airline companies have complained that there should not be a fare review every 2/2 years.

The same conclusion was also reached in the meeting called by the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Sudan Kiranti, on Monday after complaints from all sides that the fares were expensive. In the announcement, it was also agreed to reduce the sale of tickets of the maximum fare as much as possible and arrange for the return passengers to buy tickets at a minimum fare.
