108 tons of garbage collected from ten mountains

KATHMANDU, Sep 29:The Nepali Army has said that 180 tons of garbage have been collected from 10 mountains including Mount Everest.

The Nepali Army, which is the main base of tourism promotion and tourism in Nepal, has been responsible for the Mountain Clean-up Campaign and has collected the garbage for a period of four years.

On World Tourism Day, Brigadier General Sundarkumar Pandey, the director of the Nepal Army's mountain cleaning operation, announced the collection of 180 tons of waste from ten mountains, including Mount Everest.

He said, "As part of the Mountain Clean-up Campaign that started in 2019, one hundred and eight tons of garbage has been collected and managed from 10 mountains including Everest." 35 tons of rubbish were recovered from Everest, Annapurna, Baruntse and Lhotse in 2023.

He stated that the Mountain Clean-up Campaign, which began with the original slogan"Keep the mountains clean for future generations," could be made more effective. He praised the people of the Himalayan region for their participation in the Clean Mountain program.

He stated, "Some positive efforts have been made." Mountain cleansing is doable, however, provided the government and stakeholders work together and coordinate. We must also hold the local level accountable for this.

According to Brigadier General Pandey, the concept of mountain cleaning is more than just cleaning one location; it is also linked to human civilization and occurs on an annually.

He went on to say, "The Nepali Army is in charge of the mountain cleaning campaign because it is not possible due to the risk and normal preparations in the high Himalayan region." Although preparations were undertaken in 2019, they were thwarted by the Corona epidemic. The Nepalese government has set aside Rs.8 lakh thirty thousand for the years 2021, 2022, and 2023.
