Vintage Car Rally: "Distinguished Gentleman's Drive" Rolls Through Kathmandu

KATHMANDU, Sep 24:On this sunny Saturday morning, the streets of Kathmandu resonated with the roar of classic engines as the "Distinguished Gentleman's Drive" took center stage. Organized by Vintage and Classic Wheels Nepal in collaboration with Movember and Budweiser, this event brought together vintage car enthusiasts, celebrities, and advocates for a noble cause.

Twinkle Nyachhyon Rajbhandari, the welcoming face of the event, set the stage with a heartfelt message. She highlighted the primary objective of this rally, which is to preserve the beauty and heritage of vintage and classic wheels. "These vehicles are more than just machines; they are living pieces of history that deserve our utmost care and attention," she declared.

Efforts extended beyond the realm of nostalgia as she emphasized how showcasing these vehicles plays a pivotal role in promoting tourism in Nepal. By providing tourists from around the world with unique experiences, this event contributes to the growth of Nepal's tourism industry. In a plea to the government, Twinkle Rajbhandari addressed the high taxes imposed on vintage cars, urging reconsideration due to the historical and cultural significance these cars represent. She firmly believes that preserving these vehicles is not just about culture but also a means of boosting tourism in Nepal.

The event's chief guest, Raj Bahadur Shah, the Managing Director of the Jawalakhel Group of Industries, brought his passion for vintage cars to the forefront. He owns an impressive collection of vintage automobiles himself and was thrilled to be part of this international event. Raj Bahadur Shah couldn't help but express his admiration for the classic cars, further fueling the enthusiasm of the attendees.

The event boasted an impressive lineup of guests, including the beloved actor and comedian, Madan Krishna Shrestha, who expressed his delight in participating. In a lighthearted manner, he confessed his fondness for the classic vehicles, giving a nod to their timeless charm. Madan Krishna Shrestha even treated the audience to a melodic Newari song dedicated to these magnificent automobiles. Adding to the familial atmosphere, his son, Yaman Shrestha, and daughter in law, Rinku Bajracharya Shrestha, also graced the event. Mr. Yaman also livened up the atmosphere by singing a song penned by his sister.

He stressed the importance of proactive health measures, especially after the age of 40, highlighting that prostate cancer is often detected too late. He urged all males over 40 to participate in screening programs, emphasizing that "prevention is better than cure."

Dr. Namrata Pradhan, a psychiatrist at the hospital, addressed the significance of maintaining mental health. She urged everyone present to seek professional help if they are facing stress or related issues. She added, "Maintaining our mental health and these vintage cars is almost the same." She emphasized that a lack of attention to mental health can cause serious consequences, like suicidal thoughts. She also addressed the stigma surrounding expressions of emotion for men while encouraging young men to initiate conversations about mental health and support their peers to break down those barriers.

The event's route took participants from the International Club in Sanepa, weaving through Durbar Marg, Baneshwor, Koteshwor, Satdobato, Harisiddhi, and concluding at the serene Godavari Village Resort.

The "Distinguished Gentleman's Drive" not only celebrated classic cars but also underscored the importance of preserving culture, promoting tourism, and addressing critical health issues, all while revving up the engines of these timeless treasures.
