Nijgadh Airport should have been built before Lumbini and Pokhara: Finance Minister Mahat

KATHMANDU, Sep 12:Finance Minister Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat stated that the government should prioritize Nijgadh International Airport.

On the occasion of the 110th BP Jayanti, he stated that Nijgadh International Airport should be erected first, followed by Lumbini and Pokhara Airports, but the work could not be completed due to a lack of priority.

"We built Lumbini and Pokhara airports first," he explained, "but we should have built Nijgadh first." We were unable to accurately determine several of our priorities.

He stated that the Kathmandu-Terai road will be completed within the next four years, as will the airport. "With the fast track, you can get to Kathmandu in 45 minutes," he said. "We must give that airport top priority; we will be able to build the airport in four years."

Minister Mahat stated that Nepal has a lot of potential for hydropower and tourism, and that infrastructure development should be prioritized in order to integrate these sectors with economic prosperity.

Many tourist spots, he stated, could not be identified due to a lack of infrastructure. Minister Mahat also stated that an economic revolution in Nepal is achievable if everyone works together.
