Role of media in tourism promotion is important

KATHMANDU, Sep 08:Two separate photojournalism trainings for journalists have been completed in order to make the media's involvement in Nepal's internal and external tourist promotion more effective and to increase the capacity of journalists.

A project jointly operate by the Nepal Tourism Board and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Sustainable Tourism Project for Livelihood Regeneration (STLRP), and collaboration with Nepal Photo Journalist forum, Sancharika Samuha, and a technical combination of Citizen Media from June 12th to 14th for women media workers, and July 2 Tourism photojournalism training for other journalists from July 4th to 4th. The workshop was attended by 155 journalists, including 55 female journalists and 50 male journalists.

Dr. Dhananjay Regmi, Cheif executive officer of the Nepal Tourism Board and national program director of the project, said during the closing ceremony that the training was organized to make the role of the media effective in promoting internal and external tourism in Nepal and enhancing the capacity of journalists. He stated that the role of the media in tourism marketing is crucial, mentioning that positive news reported about the country's tourism will help in building the country's image.
The United Nations Development Program's (UNDP) Portfolio Manager, Kalpana Sarkar, stated that this training for journalists is important in light of the fact that UNDP is conducting various trainings focused on inclusiveness and has promised to participate in such training in the coming days.


On behalf of the trainees, Sancharika Samuha President Vimala Tumkheva, NFPJ President Pradeepraj Vant, Trainer Kishore Shrestha, Livelihood Recovery Expert of Sustainable Tourism Project (STLRP) Dharam Dawadi, Rajendra Shrestha, Shusheela Basnet, and others stated that the training will help improve journalists' professional capacity.

Senior photojournalists Minratna Bajacharya, Kishore Shrestha, Rajan Kafle, and Pradeep Kumar Kshestha, as well as photojournalists Sunil Sharma, Shushil Shrestha, Sunil Sharma, and Sagar Shrestha, provided training on camera operation, the value of photography, and its theoretical and practical components. Similarly, Nepal Tourism Board Media Consultant and Deputy Professor of Journalism T.P. Bhusal offered training on Nepal's general tourism and tourism photography, as well as other legal elements such as privacy in photography.
