Present tourism sector cannot be led by 35-year-old Tourism Act: Tourism Minister Kirati

KATHMANDU, Sep 06:Sudan Kirati, Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, has stated that the Tourism Act of 35 years ago cannot lead the modern tourism business.

Minister Kiranti stated on Monday at the International Relations and Tourism Committee meeting of the House of Representatives that the current Tourism Act is from 2035 and that the government intends to revise the Act to fit current needs.

He stated that the government is striving to make the Tourism Act effective as soon as possible. Minister Kiranti stated that in order to enhance the mountain climbing area, he plans to alter the mountain climbing regulations by inserting items in the tourism regulations such as paragliding from 8,000 meters.

He stated that tourism regulations would be changed to make it easier for gliders. "We are also aware that when mountaineering regulations are changed, the importance of Mount Everest will diminish when paragliding from a height above 8,000 meters," he stated.
