Jomsom-Pokhara air service resumes after two-month
KATHMANDU, Sep 05:The Jomsom-Pokhara air service has been operating after two months.
Due to bad weather, the air transport service from Pokhara, the capital of Gandaki Province, to Jomsom Airport in Mustang, a tourism district, was suspended on June 28.
Hiron Shah, the head of Jomsom Airport, announced that Summit Air ran three flights on Sunday for the first time in two months.
"The Pokhara-Jomsom air service has been operating because the weather is improving and the tourist season is about to begin," he explained.
According to Jomsom Airport, 54 Indians, one foreign visitor, and two domestic tourists boarded the Mustang on three separate flights on Sunday. Residents, pilgrims, and tourists in Mustang are likely to be eased following the operation of air flights while transportation services are disrupted due to landslides in the Myagdi stretch of the Beni-Jomsom road.
Due to road closures and a lack of air service, travelers had to pay exorbitant costs to travel by helicopter. It is projected that tourist traffic in Mustang will grow once the air service is operational.
In the fiscal year 2022/23, 71 thousand foreign tourists visited Mustang, according to the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) Jomsom.
