Tourists requested not to travel to Muktinath for one week

KATHMANDU, August 29: Tourists and locals have been requested not to travel through Beni-Jomsom road except in cases of urgent work. The local authorities have requested not to travel except for 'urgent' work as landslides have occurred in various parts of the road section due to the incessant rain.

The route is mainly used to travel to Muktinath and upper Mustang.

The press release states that due to ongoing road construction work under the Kali Gandaki Corridor Project in the Beni-Jomsom-Korala road section, traffic has been obstructed. The obstruction caused by continuous landslides and falling rocks poses a risk to both human life and property. In particular, a tower supporting the 220 KV transmission line and the consistent falling of rocks at the same location have put road travelers and workers at risk. Despite efforts to clear the path and operate loaders and drivers, the continuous danger and potential for physical and human damage have prompted the authorities to inform the public not to travel on this route, except for essential work, until further notice
