NAC’s employees union warns of protests if grounded aircraft is not repaired

KATHMANDU, August 29: The employees union of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has given a 15-day ultimatum to the management for aircraft maintenance.

The association has given a 15-day ultimatum to the management saying that the loss has increased by keeping the aircraft grounded without repairs for over two months. The union has also demanded to selection of a maintenance repair organization to start the repairs of the aircraft.

It is mentioned in the attention letter issued by Man Bahadur Kunwar, the chairman of the association, that the repairs are being neglected. Due to this, the corporation has to lose huge income.

The corporation had taken the engine on lease 20 months ago when the narrow-body aircraft of 9N-AKW broke down.

The association alleged that Rs 350 million was paid as rent when a new engine could be purchased for Rs 600 million. At that time, the ship was grounded in Qatar for more than two months because the engine was not arranged on time. The association said that the corporation lost an income of Rs 760 million.

The association has also drawn the attention of the leadership to manage the five Chinese ships that are not in operation.
