NTB received PATA Gold Award-2023 for women empowerment initiative

KATHMANDU, August 25: The Sustainable Tourism for Livelihood Recovery Project (STLRP)a joint project of the Nepal Tourism Board and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has received the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Gold Award-2023 for their sustainability and social responsibility initiatives in the women's empowerment initiative category.

The project had earlier also received the PATA Gold Award in 2022 under the Tourism Destination Resilience category.

Maniraj Lamichhane, director of Nepal Tourism Board and national program coordinator of the project, informed that this award will be given on the occasion of PATA Gold Awards 2023 to be held in New Delhi on October 5.

“Following the spread of COVID-19, we have been continuously carrying out operations from rescuing tourists to manpower development and some infrastructure development. It has helped in manpower production and job creation. We have continuously received various international awards in recognition of the work we have done. This has given us the incentive to do more work,” Dhananjay Regmi, CEO of NTB said.

The board and STLRP have been conducting various programs for the construction of tourist destinations including capacity building of women and other tourism workers.

Under this, river guides for women, trekking guides for sexual and gender minorities, and various training and guide manuals related to tourism have been conducted providing training to around 1,000 women.
