Lack of budget halts reconstruction of 22 heritage sites around Durbar Square

KATHMANDU, August 24: Due to a lack of budget, the reconstruction process of 22 heritage sites in the Hanuman Dhoka Square area, which were destroyed by the earthquake of April 25, 2015, have yet to the light of day. 

According to Engineer Renu Maharjan of the square which is also a world heritage site of Nepal, the lack of budget has delayed the reconstruction of various heritage sites located around the square.

Around 75 heritage sites located in the area were affected during the 2015 earthquake, of which 42 have been reconstructed so far. 

Around 11 heritage sites are undergoing construction at the moment but the reconstruction of 22 heritage site are yet to start. There are a total of 95 such sites of cultural and traditional importance for the local communities around the Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square.
