SC issues interim order to maintain regular flights to Humla at a reasonable fare

KATHMANDU, August 21: The Supreme Court has issued an interim order on a writ seeking an order to maintain regular flights in Humla and to maintain reasonable fares compared to other districts.

It is mentioned on the website of the Supreme Court that the bench of Justice Hari Phuyal gave this order in a writ filed by Ram Bahadur Shahi.

According to Advocate Tikaram Bhattarai, the Nepal Airlines Corporation has set a fare of Rs 4,000 from Nepalgunj to Bajura, while it has set a fare of Rs 9,000 for the same distance in Humla. On top of that, the petitioner filed a writ in the Supreme Court after setting the schedule of flying only two days a week and not regular flights.

"Since private company ships also go to Bajura, there was a competition and a low fare was set. As for Humla, only the NAC is flying to Humla, that's why they fixed the costlier fares,'' said senior advocate Bhattarai. “As the road facilities are not good in Humla, the only transportation option is by air. The government needs to provide subsidies to make the fares cheaper.
