We will move forward by amending the Tourism Act: Minister Kirati

KATHMANDU, August 20: Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Sudan Kirati has said that the government will move forward by amending the Tourism Act.

Speaking at the conclusion of the training of the first group of tourist police and junior police officers, he said that the ministry is going to amend the Tourism Act for the development of the tourism sector.

"The Tourism Act, which was made a long time ago, cannot solve the problems of the current tourism sector, which is why the Ministry is going to amend it," he said.

He said that despite the lack of resources, the tourist police performed excellently, adding that the country's development and economic progress will be achieved only through the tourism sector.

He said that the role played by the tourist police to take the tourism of Nepal, a country with immense tourism potential, to the world market is admirable.

He also instructed the tourist police to be highly loyal and work with mind, word and deed. The head of the National Police Training Institute, Additional Inspector General of Police, Tek Prasad Rai, urged the maximum use of the experience gained during the training in the field of work. He said that the Nepal Police is promoting Nepal's tourism sector through the United Nations (UN).

Training Coordinator, Superintendent of Police Chitra Bahadur Gurung said that tourist police played an important role in providing service and security to foreign tourists coming to visit Nepal. He said that the tourist police should take the initiative to highlight the image of Nepal at the international level.

The Tourist Police, which was established in 1978, is currently providing services to tourists from 10 locations across the country, informed Deputy Superintendent of Police Sugandha Shrestha, Head of Tourist Police Unit Bhrikutimandap.

Currently, there are 239 tourist police personnel across the country. Training is being provided to the tourist police as per provisions in the police regulations of 2071. 30 tourist policemen from all over the country participated in the first phase of training.
