Preparation underway to showcase tigers in captivity to visiting tourists

KATHMANDU, August 20: Bharatpur Metropolitan City has announced to showcase tigers to tourists visiting on the occasion of Bharatpur visit year 2024. Preparations have been made to show the tigers held in captivity by the Chitwan National Park directly to the tourists.

Renu Dahal, mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan Municipality, has asked the park to do the necessary homework to show the tigers directly to the tourists coming during the visit year.

According to Dil Bahadur Purja Pun, chief conservation officer of the park, as many as five tigers are currently being kept in captivity at the rehabilitation center of the park. Preparations are being made to show the tigers to visiting tourists by arranging a designated area at the Wildlife Rescue Center in Devnagar.

He said, "The tiger can be shown according to the request of the mayor, but the final decision has not been made on where to show it."

At present, three tigers are in captivity at the rehabilitation center for attacking humans while two are at Sauraha. Ganesh Prasad Tiwari, information officer of the park, said that it is a good idea to put caged tigers for tourists to see instead of just keeping them in captivity, which will increase both tourists and income.
