Makwanpur Gadhi witnesses an uptick in tourist flow even in monsoon

KATHMANDU, August 20: Around 500 to 1,000 tourists are visiting Makwanpur Gadhi Durbar, one of the biggest historical places of the country on a daily basis. According to locals, most of the visiting tourists are from the Madhesh Province. With the end of the financial year, it is said that the number of visitors coming on group visits from the organizations involved in various economic activities, financial institutions, cooperatives, various local levels, etcetera, has increased significantly. Makwanpur Fort, which is believed to have been built by the first Sen dynasty king named Tula Sen around 1000 B.S., is considered to be one of the grand structures of the 11th century.

While the region used to experience an influx of tourists in the winter season, the inflow of tourists during the monsoon has increased by 100 percent compared to previous years.

Babulal Titung, a local resident of Makwanpurgarhi-2, says that the number of domestic tourists coming to Gadhi from Madhesh province to escape the heat is increasing.

According to him, tourists from Lalitpur, Kathmandu, Sindhuli, and Chitwan regularly visit the surrounding areas.

Bhimprasad Ghimire, another local said that the number of visitors to Makwanpur Gadhi may have increased due to the paved and graded road and increasing publicity of the region.
