Karnali businessmen urge govt to remove 13 pc tax on air tickets

KATHMANDU, August 18:After finding some resolve in the flight situation in the Karnali region Karnali, the Tourism Entrepreneurs Society have drawn the government's attention for tourism development in the region. 

The association has urged the government to make diplomatic steps with the neighbouring government to reopen the Hilsa border points

Stating that the locals have no other option than to rely on air service for day to day activities, the association complained that the VAT imposed by the government on air tickets has further affected the livelihoods of the local people.

"It is necessary to immediately withdraw the compulsory system of paying 13 percent tax for the citizens of Karnali who have no choice but to fly when they are sick and also on the transportation of food items and other goods," the statement reads.
