CAAN seeks explanation from Chairman Rameshwar Thapa

KATHMANDU, August 16: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has sought an explanation from the Chairman of Simrik Air, Captain Rameshwar Thapa. Issuing a letter, CAAN has requested Captain Thapa for an explanation for continuously lobbying for airlines to be allowed to fly even in unfavorable conditions.

CAAN has issued a 24-hour explanation letter to Thapa saying that the airlines operated in violation of the existing laws of the government and the Nepal Civil Authority Act, 2053, and the regulations and other regulatory standards made under it.

In the letter, it is asked why the president of the company, which should be operating under the legal framework of CAAN, should not be removed as it has a serious impact on the implementation of flight safety regulations. Thapa has been asked to appear in person at the authority and explain his understanding.

Earlier, CAAN had restricted helicopter flights a month ago, citing flight safety reasons, during the monsoon season after a number of helicopter crashes were recorded in the country.
