Gamphadhuri, a hidden tourism prospect

Gamphadhuri, a hidden tourism prospect

KATHMANDU, August 14:Despite its potential for tourism, Gamphadhuri, which is located on the border of Myagdi and Baglung has fallen into disrepair due to lack of proper publicity and infrastructure. Located at an altitude of 3,300 meters above sea level, Gambhadhuri is a famous destination surrounded by natural beauty.
According to Roka Magar, a youth from Bukeni, 'Gamphadhuri', which is a four-hour walk from ward 4 of Mangala Rural Municipality, is overshadowed by the lack of infrastructure including roads, foot trails, etcetera. Visitors are welcomed by views of Mt Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Annapurna, and other surrounding mountains from here.

Dozens of villages and hilly terrains of Myagdi and Baglung can be observed along the trail. Although the locals occasionally go for picnics together, the arrival of tourists has not been able to increase due to the lack of infrastructure.

“Although it is a tourist asset, the area is overshadowed by the lack of internal management, lack of organized footpaths, lack of roads, and lack of publicity. There is potential for tourism, but it has not yet flourished due to the lack of state investment," Magar said, adding that investment from the local government is necessary to change the current situation of Gamphdhuri.

Lal Bahadur Roka, ward chairman of Ward No. 4 of Mangala Rural Municipality, mentioned that the local youths requested to allocate a budget for the construction of necessary infrastructures for the tourism development of Gamphadhuri, which is known as the highest tourist spot of the rural municipality. He said that for the development of tourism in this area, a master plan should be made for publicity, the construction of footpaths, roads, and the preservation of old heritage.
