‘Pokhari Padyatra’ organized to promote tourism in Bhaktapur

KATHMANDU, August 10: Bhaktapur municipality has organized ‘Pokhari Padyatra’  under the campaign ‘Know Bhaktapur’s Ponds, Focus on Heritage Conservation,’ to promote local tourism. 
Under the program, it has been decided to walk around 16 ponds located in the city.
In order to promote cultural activities and local products, cultural exhibitions, food stalls, and exhibition and sale centers of original products were also placed in the Pond Walk.
People's representatives of Bhaktapur, employees, school teachers, volunteers, representatives of various associations, sports committees, Baja group, and other residents of Bhaktapur participated in the rally.
According to Bhaktapur Municipality, Ranipokhari, which was occupied by the Nepali Army, has started to attract tourism after the restoration of Bhaktapur Municipality.
There are ponds in all wards number 1 to 10 in Bhaktapur including Siddipokhari and Kamalpokhari. 
Mayor Sunil Prajapati of Bhaktapur said that the municipality has taken forward the tourism promotion program after realizing the importance of the surrounding ponds in the city which are located from Ward 1 to Ward 10.
Prajapati said that while Bhaktapur is developing as a tourist destination, many challenges have also been added which also hold various opportunities for the city’s development.
Stating that tourists from all over the world come to visit Bhaktapur to see the heritage of Bhaktapur, lawmaker Prem Suwal expressed the view that efforts should be made to preserve heritage and hand them over to the next generation.
