Book on picturesque tourist destination Pikey Peak- Pikey launched

KATHMANDU, August 7: A book titled- Pikey, about the touristic, religious, cultural, and biological location of the Pikey Peak located in Likhupike Rural Municipality-1 of Solukhumbu district has been released.

The author of the book is Himal Giri, a writer, and researcher, and is published by Peekye Hill Social Organization. The book was launched amid a program held at the capital on Sunday.

From the rural municipality, one can see six mountains above 8,000 meters from Pikey Peak viewpoint which stands at a height of 4,070 metres. Pikey is considered a huge importance for the lifestyle of the Sherpa community as well as a growing choice of destination for tourists. The area is also worshipped by the Sherpa community as their deity every year during Janai Purnima. Alongside a tourist destination, the place also holds a huge significance in terms of religious aspects for the local communities. 

According to Karna Shakya, a writer and tourism entrepreneur, and chief guest on the launch program, the economic and social paths of any sector will be strengthened if it can be developed as a tourism sector since Nepal is a country with huge prospects. Stating that the launched book highlights the touristic, religious, cultural, and biological aspects of the Pikey region, Shakya shared that the book will assist to promote the region to the outside world.

Nima Dendi Sherpa, chairman of Peekye Hill Social Organization, said that the book was written after analyzing the entire area of ​​this region, which is also considered a hidden gem for tourists who are hesitant or don't have enough time to visit the upper part of Solukhumbu, adding that it is believed that the book will further assist in the promotion of the region. 

In the program, author Himal Giri said that Pikey Peak is one of the most beautiful and culturally rich tourist areas among other important tourist spots in the Solukhumbu district which motivated him to write about this area. He shared that through this book he has attempted to introduce Pikey Hill, which is rich in various aspects.

He further said that the book has paved the way for further promotion of the region adding that it is now upon everyone to take responsibility to open a highway leading to the region. He also believes that the book will be helpful in the field of study and research of the region in the future as well.

Pikey Peak is an attractive destination for both domestic and foreign tourists alike. The number of those who reach the region is also increasing daily. The Buddhist monasteries in the region are also a place that can attract religious tourists alongside having a huge potential for trekking purposes as well.
