Entry to upper floors of temples around Patan Durbar Area closed to public

KATHMANDU, August 6: The Lalitpur Metropolitan Police has barred the general public from accessing the upper floors of two historic temples in the Patan Durbar Square area of the Lalitpur metropolis. According to metropolitan police chief Sitaram Hachhethu, entry to the upper floors of Vishwanath Temple and Hari Shankar Temple located on the north side of Krishna Temple has been barred for the general public from Saturday onwards.
The decision was made after complaints were received about young couples going to the upper floors of such temples and engaging in activities like hugging and kissing despite the temples being of importance in terms of cultural and religious perspectives for the people.
He said that on the instructions of Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan of Lalitpur, entry to the upper floor of the temple has been prohibited to the general public. Tourists also complained that only human heads came out when taking photos.
Entry to Krishna Temple and Jagat Narayan Temple around the Patan Durbar premises will also be banned from entry in the coming days.
