A look at eight luxury hotels brought into operation in the last FY

KATHMANDU, August 4: As many as eight new luxury hotels/resorts have come into operation across the country with huge investments in the last financial year. Around 531 rooms including villas have been added to the hotels with a total investment of over Rs 16 billion. 

Opening of star hotels has been on the rise at a time when the operational hotels are facing difficulties to even sustain themselves to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent recession. In some places including Bhairahawa, hotels have been put up for sale as a result.

Recently, Dusit International, a well-known hospitality company in Thailand, has simultaneously brought two five-star hotels into operation in the country. Dusit has managed high end luxury hotels in Kantipath in Kathmandu and Dhulikhel in Kavre.

Kavya Resort and SPA:

A high-end luxury resort came into operation in Nagarkot last year with an investment of around three billion rupees. Kavya Resort and Spa has come into operation with the investment of banker Prithvi Bahadur Pandey, Vishal Group and the Golcha family. It is said that there are 20 different types of villas in the resort. The resort is spread over an area of ​​175 ropani, and has been put into operation targeting domestic and foreign tourists.

Various types of rooms are available in Kavya Resort, which has been operated with a completely different design, such as a junior suite, one-bedroom villa, a deluxe villa, and a two-bedroom villa.

Dusit Thani Himalayan Resort:

The luxury Dusit Thani Himalayan Resort has come into operation near the famous Buddhist pilgrimage site Nombuddha in Kavre, with an investment of Rs 2.5 billion. The resort is managed by Dusit Thani, the flagship five-star brand of Thai company Dusit International.

In the first phase, 28 rooms with four suites have been put into operation in the resort spread over an area of ​​63 ropani. The goal is to reach 72 rooms by the end of 2023. 

Dusit Princess Kathmandu:

A new five-star hotel has come into operation at Lazimpat in Kathmandu. "Dusit Princess Kathmandu" of Hotel Lhasa International has been brought into operation.

Dusit Princess, a well-known chain brand of Thailand's hospitality company Dusit International, is also involved in the management of this hotel.

Dasit Princess has 107 rooms, including Presidential Suite, Superior King, Superior Twin, Junior Suite, Executive King, Executive Twin, Deluxe King and Deluxe Twin. There are two large auditoriums.

The construction of this hotel was started in 2016. However, it took seven years to complete due to various reasons including the COVID-19 pandemic. The 12-story hotel has a spa, swimming pool, and parking facility to hold over 70 vehicles. The director said that they are preparing to bring a casino in the near future.

Dorje’s Resort and Spa:

Dorje Resort & Spa started operations in mid-June in Pokhara. Director Dorje Lama said that the resort has 23 rooms with four suites and a total investment of one billion rupees. Lama, who has been running the 'Moon Dance Restaurant' at Pokhara's lakeside for two and a half decades, opened a high-end resort overlooking the beautiful Fewa Lake that can be seen from every room of the resort. 

Siddartha Villasa:

A five-star Siddhartha Vilasa has opened in Anchalapur of Bhairahawa with a capacity of 85 rooms and an investment of Rs 2.5 billion. Siddharth Hospitality Group is preparing to hold a grand opening of the hotel in mid-September. The hotel has infrastructure including three halls, a rooftop restaurant, a swimming pool, a spa, a health club, long tennis court. There is also a large seminar hall that can accommodate 1,200 people. 

Soaltee Westend Itahari: 

The 85-room five-star 'Solty Westend Itahari' has come into operation in the emerging city of Itahari in eastern Nepal.

Soaltee Group has taken over the management of the hotel, which has an investment of one and a half billion by local businessmen Bhim Paudel and Balram Acharya. 

The group launched a five-star hotel in Itahari targeting Indian tourists along the border.

Although it was originally named Garima Hotel, it was renamed Soaltee Westend Itahari after Soaltee Group took over the hotel’s management.

Tayo Eco Resort:

The family of Sugat Ratna Kansakar, the former general manager of Nepal Airlines Corporation, has brought Tayo Eco Resort into operation in Nagarkot with an investment of Rs 1.16 billion. The resort is spread over a total area of ​​30 ropani, which has 42 rooms including two suites. This resort is preferred by domestic tourists going to Nagarkot.

Hotel Barahi Kathmandu:

Barahi Group has brought a four-star level hotel into operation at Kantipath in Kathmandu.

The group operating luxury hotels in Pokhara and Chitwan has launched a new hotel in Kathmandu. It is said that RS 1.5 billion has been invested in the hotel which was put into operation recently.

There are 80 rooms with eight suites in the hotel complex in front of Kesharamhal. On the seventh floor of the hotel, there is an 'Infinity Swimming Pool' facing Narayanhiti Palace.

The hotel has a coffee shop, restaurant, bar, private dining hall and a meeting hall that can accommodate 120 people.
