KATHMANDU: Lakpa Sherpa, a world record holder, has climbed Mount K2, the world's second highest peak.

She broke a record by ascending Mount Everest for the tenth time. Pemba Sherpa, the proprietor of the 'AT-K' expedition organization, stated that Sherpas ascended the world's second highest peak, K2, around 12 a.m. local time on Thursday in Pakistan.

Lakpa Sherpa stated before climbing  K2 that she wanted to send the message that Nepali women do not back down from anything and can do anything.

Lakpa followed in the footsteps of record climbers Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Edmund Hillary, who were the first to set foot on the world's summit.

She achieved a global record by ascending Mount Everest for the eighth time.
